The Host Of "TechTalk With Solomon" Show Launches a Startup Studio A startup studio called 1888EC that is founded in 2020 by Solomon Kassa is launched. Solomon is the host of a known Technology TV Show in Ethiopia. 1888EC is aiming to create and build startups through end-to-end in-house expertise. Startup Studios take a different approach to build and scale startups comparing to incubators and accelerators.

The name, 1888EC, refers to the date Battle of Adwa and EC to " Ethiopian Calendar ". While EC also represent ‘Enterprise Central’.

The 1888EC website reads, " 1888EC, refers to the date of the victorious Battle of Adwa on the Ethiopian Calendar (or EC). In addition to representing a pivotal part of Ethiopia’s independence history, the letters “EC” also stand for ‘Enterprise Central’. With dual representations of our past victory as well as our fundamental work in building Ethiopia’s future entrepreneurs, our company’s creation originates from the idea of symbolizing the victory we want to re-imagine against poverty by empowering young entrepreneurs to innovate. "

1888EC has just partnered with MasterCard Foundation " to create the country’s first travel and leisure platform aimed at creating digital solutions and job opportunities within Ethiopia’s tourism sector. " 

The platform, which will be developed as a prototype in the coming months, will be a modern and user-friendly interface for travelers to access more tourist destinations, book accommodations easier, feel safer by using a trusted app that tracks information, and offer packages to promote increased travel across the country while attracting greater foreign currency to boost the economy. CSM Technologies, Indian-based IT services and consulting firm, has closed a deal valued $5.5 million with the Addis Ababa Public Procurement & Property Disposal Services for the design and implementation of the Integrated Land Management Information System (ILMS). Orange and Vodafone Confirm Plans to Bid for Ethiopian Licences

Orange and Vodafone are pushing towards their bid submission for the two new Telecommunication licenses that are available in Ethiopia. Orange, who has reportedly opened an office in Ethiopia, is engaging with Ethiopian authorities through a dedicated team. Vodafone, who is expected to bid through the " lead partner" Safaricom has secured $500M for DFC and an undisclosed amount from CDC. Read More.
