Issue 20 : eQub Launches A Digital Saving Platform

eQub Launches A Digital Saving PlatformeQub Financial Technologies, the startup behind the platform that aims to digitize the traditional saving method of Equb, launches the awaited app. Equb is a traditional group saving method. A group of people agrees to contribute a defined amount of money to pool routinely for a specified duration of time. The eQub app that this Fintech startup just launched is no different, rather digitized with the addition of new features. Launched a week ago on Google Play Store, Equb has been downloaded more than 500 times so far. The startup is founded by Yohana Ermias who is the CTO and Alexander Hizikias who is the CEO. Yohana is also behind COI Technologies, a company that builds an enterprise airtime management and distribution system. Alexander also is the founder of The Goat Café, and a clothing line under ‘Alexander Hizikias Couture’. Read More

The app that is developed by the sister company of Guzo Go is using Abyssinia Bank's payment gateway to accept payment and transfer from International customers. Read More. Liyana Digital Health Solution Introduces A Virtual Healthcare Delivery PlatformLiyana digital healthcare solutions, an Ethiopian health tech company introduces a virtual health care service that is available through a call center, Mobile App, and Website. ArifPay Holds Founding Meeting Arif Pay ( Now Arifpay Financial Technologies Share Company had its founding meeting ). Arifpay which is co-founded by ZayRide Founders has been playing in the mobile Point of Sales (mPOS ) space.  With the recent founding meeting, Arifpay looks like it's reorganizing itself to align with the recent Fintech regulation by the National Bank of Ethiopia. Awtar Goes International through Abyssinia Bank Payment Gateway Awtar Multimedia Ethiopia launched Awtar Music Streaming app for International users.  Awtar, which teamed up with Abyssinia Bank to allow Ethiopian Diaspora to pay for music in Awtar App,  will be providing songs with cost of  0.50 USD and albums for 5 USD. Facebook to expand transparency on Political Ads in Kenya and Ethiopia"Facebook is expanding two initiatives focused on increasing transparency and controls on social issues, electoral, and political ads to more countries around the world, including Ethiopia and Kenya". Read More.

Orange launches a Digital Center in Ethiopia "Orange, a French multinational telecommunications corporation and one of the potential bidders to secure a telecom license in Ethiopia, has launched a digital centre in the Ethio ICT Park. Orange Digital Centre Ethiopia will work on promoting digital skills, supporting job creation, and encouraging youth participation in innovation." The Digital Center brings a coding school, FabLab Solidaire ( a digital manufacturing laboratory ), Orange Fab ( a startup accelerator), and Orange Ventures Africa. Read More.
