National Bank to Introduce Centralized Bank Borrowers Database National Bank is expected to introduce a centralized bank borrowers database according to Yinager Demisse (PhD) of National Bank. The database will allow banks in Ethiopia to know their client's credit status, make the right decision, and reduce the risk of having a high number of non-performing loans.There are already 3 million bank borrowers that are added to the database by the National Bank of Ethiopia. Read more

A Mobile App to Support Women Entrepreneurs Ethiopia Women Entrepreneurship Development Project (WEDP), that supports over 38 thousand growth-oriented women-owned micro and small enterprises, in partnership with World Bank’s Africa Gender Innovation Lab, the Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice, and the ITS Technology and Innovation Lab (ITSTI) brought an innovative idea of a mobile application to help women entrepreneurs in the pandemic crisis. The mobile app is expected to tap into point-of-sale (POS) data for firms and generate business insights as well as transactional records, to help the firms improve operations, maximize profits and obtain digital credit scores to access emergency loans.
